Weekend-Summer
Teacher Education Program
Through a combination of courses taken on weekends from September-May
for two years, with additional summer sessions for three years, and independent
study, a student can complete requirements for certification in Waldorf
educationEarly Childhood, Grades 1-8 or High School. Summer sessions
are three weeks each for the first two summers. For the third year, the
summer session is five weeks.
Across North America there is growing interest
in Waldorf education with the number of Waldorf schools expected to double
within the next decade. This expansion is resulting in an increasing demand
for trained teachers from independent Waldorf schools and also from public
charter schools seeking to implement aspects of the Waldorf approach in
their classrooms.
Program Topics
· foundation studies in Anthroposophy
· the philosophical basis of Waldorf education as established
by
founder Rudolf Steiner
· the principles and practices of Waldorf education, with
studies in child
development, curriculum and Waldorf methodology
· the arts, including painting, drawing, sculpture, drama,
eurythmy, singing,
speech and handwork; w as well as observation and practice teaching
in
Waldorf schools, and independent study.
Schedule
Year One
Weekends: September to May Summer session, three weeks

Weekends: September to May Summer session, three weeks
Year Three
Five week summer session. * High School: three weeks.

Astrid Schmitt-Stegmann
Program Director for the San Francisco and Los Altos Campuses
B.A. and M.A., California State University, Sacramento, 1975. Eurythmy
study, Dornach, Switzerland, 1958; Drama study Dornach and Heidelberg,
1959-60. Waldorf Teacher Training, Sacramento Waldorf School, 1974. Astrid
taught in Waldorf schools for 25 years as a lower school, high school and
foreign language teacher before becoming Director of Waldorf Teacher
Education Programs at Rudolf Steiner College. As well as traveling to
schools throughout the U.S. and Europe to give workshops and mentor faculty
members, she is active in worldwide anthroposophical initiatives. Formally
on the faculty of the Waldorf Teacher Training Seminar in Mannheim, Germany,
she also trained teachers in St. Petersburg, Russia.
