Foundation Year Program
Rudolf Steiner College
Offered as a full-time year long course or as a weekend course. Explore with an international group of students world knowledge, a deeper understanding of the human being, community building, and the inner lawfulness of nature. This year of studies is designed as an introduction to the ideas and endeavors of Rudolf Steiner, as well as a year of cultural enrichment and personal growth.
Students bring many questions: How can I awaken to my true vocation? What is my relationship to others, to the world of nature, and to the being of the earth? Can my thoughts and deeds influence world happenings and shape the future?
These concerns are addressed in courses that integrate the arts and sciences and explore the path of inner development described by Steiner. This schooling of consciousness can bring clarity in thinking, balance in the life of feeling, and strength and direction to the will. Because they kindle imagination and inner growth, the arts form a significant part of the program.
Intensive work in the performing arts of eurythmy, speech, and music helps to unfold latent capacities and deepen artistic perception. Each student will develop a project out of a special interest that arises during the year. This may include work done in the internship and/or artistic explorations. These will be shared with the community as part of the year's finale.
This full-time year-long program has two tracks: it provides a solid first year of Waldorf teacher education for those preparing to become Waldorf teachers (kindergarten, grades or high school level). It also embraces students who wish to explore the indications of Rudolf Steiner at work in the world in a personal and practical way, and meet with others who are grappling with life's deeper questions.
