Waldorf Administration Program
Rudolf Steiner College
March 14-21, 2008 First Session
Administration with Spirit
This program is designed for administrative staff, teachers, parents, committee members, board members and anyone interested in the administrative life of a Waldorf school. As its name indicates, "Administration with Spirit," it strives to provide both a practical and a spiritual perspective, drawing from the Anthroposophical underpinnings of Waldorf education.
Those of us familiar with Waldorf education know that a Waldorf school is not successful based on pedagogy alone. Each school has an administrative life, be it nascent or mature, recognized or dormant. This program offers those serious about Waldorf administration the opportunity to study, query, develop connections and grow personally as students and practitioners of the life of service and leadership. The learning is a seminar format, interactive and experiential, reflecting the real-time dynamics of group work. The program is eight weeks of on-campus time, interspersed with assignments, research and a program project, spread over two years.
The program covers a wide sweep of topics from institutional vision and direction, operations and financial services, leadership and decision-making, governance and philanthropy, as well as colleagueship and constituencies. Graduates of the program leave with an exposure to all the elements of effective administration as well as an appreciation of the challenges of employment in a spiritually based organization.
The faculty for the program is made up of leading figures in the Waldorf movement dedicated to adult education, self-knowledge, increasing effectiveness of our schools and the social mission of Waldorf education.
